So how would one protect themselves from such behavior, how could you expose bogus conselings if you cant record them, this whole thing is a catch 22 and the military has no accountablity.

Counselings are in writing, so I'm not sure why you think they need to be recorded. And a "bogus" written counseling statement can be refuted with facts and witnesses. A "bogus" verbal counseling doesn't exist in your record, so there is no "catch 22".

Just because you repeat it doesn't make it true.

When you contacted the JAG office - who DOES have the authority to record - what did they say?
Just FYI I am not the OP but I have been in the military so I know this plight, what I learned is he just has to take the abuse because there really is no recourse. What is likely happening is the higher up is making abusive comments verbaly that are not nessicarily in a write up so its just flagrant harrasement, unfortunatly in the military there is no recourse for this type of behavior. There really is no accoutability for this type of behavior.

Did you even TRY to call the JAG office? How about going up the chain of command?

What, exactly, did you do to resolve this other than throw your hands in the air and say, "Nothing can be done."

I was not about to spend my entire carrer fighting the system, that is an exhausting non productive activity. If you dont have rock solid proof of something it becomes a he said she said and it will buy you more harrasment, its not worth it. I was not that far in where I had a carrer so why would I want to invest time into something like that. The OP may have security clearnces and rank etc etc and have alot to loose so he is going to have to just take it because until you have slam dunk evidence that can remove someone from a command and have them OTH discharged all it will do is roast your carrer. That is why this guy is asking about tape recorders. You have to have evidence that will end the higher ups carrer otherwise he will still be around to make your life miserable and roast your carrer.

Oh, so you didn't contact JAG or go up the chain of command.

That is correct I did not other than to get out, I filled out an exit questioneer where I went into detail about my reasons for wanting an ELS (since its the gaurd you can be in much longer and still get an ELS). Some people said I should not have but thats what I did just did not really want to deal with it, I figured they get away with alot of crap in basic so why would guard or permentat party be any different, someone screaming at you at the top of there lungs about who knows what is not something that is going to get very far up the chain of command.
