I own a franchise of a business, I also do graphic design for that business, and other franchisees of the same.

The business I own is an incorperation, as is the ofther franchisee. We are both in Georgia, and the parent company is in Virginia.

I have been putting out a menu booklet for my business, and for another franchisee.

All the work I do, for and franchisee goes to the same company to be put to film and printed. They are in Alabama.

Is what I do (scanning, typsetting and layout) considered intelectual property? Or is it considered work for hire? Most of the booklet is text, which I get from restaurants, and aretork which is either scanned, or created by myself.

If it is intelectual property, do I need to mark it with the copywrite symbol, or is it implied?

If the other franchise gives the disk containing the all that information to someone else to edit - WITH OUT MY PERMISSION - is he violating any law?

If the company that printed the menu books gives my disk to another designer, at the request of the other franchise owner with out my permission are they both in violation of a law?

Do I need to file for a copyright on each publication (a new one is done every 3 months)?

Thanks for the help and advice!
