-I was wondering if it would be illegal for me to buy software from my school at student price and sell it back to people who need it for more than i paid for it?

If it matters- The potential sell back prices could approach $2500 to $3000.

Please let me know if this is possible or legal.

Really?

Are you really asking this question? Does this sound like the type of activity that would be encouraged and supported by the original software owner/vendor?

It is very likely, that when you purchase the software, you do not have full and exclusive ownership rights in the sense you may be thinking. Depending on the software, it is very likely you are entering into a special lease-type agreement with the software owner, and have limited rights on how you can use/distribute/transfer the software.

For further review, I would contact the selling institution (if you are getting it at your school) or the reseller (if you are purchasing it online) and ask them what type of agreement controls the sale/re-sale of the software in question.

Modernly, you don't buy the software, you buy a license to use the software. Many licenses limit how you can use the software and if you can transfer the software. What does your license say?
