What is the name of your state? ky, signed the paperwork for my used 2002 Grand Caravan this morning, had to have it towed this evening. the dealership towed it and said they would check it out, if it was nothing that i did to it they would go from there. the
engine light came on, and the vehicle would accelerate very slowly no matter how hard i pushed on the gas, i tried to make it the half mile or so to my home, after pulling out from a stop it wouldn't accelerate at all, leaving me stranded in oncoming traffic briefly, i got it to the side street and parked it, something under the hood was smoking, walked home and called the dealer, what should i do next

It would take quite a bit more for your vehicle to qualify as a lemon. Most states require a vehicle to have multiple problems and to be out of service for a specific amount of time before the lemon laws take effect. And depending on the mileage of the vehicle you bought, lemon laws may not even apply.

your vehicle cannot be in service for more than 24 months or 18,000 miles (whichever comes first) in order to qualify for lemon law. i assume you situation has been handled by now, but if not . . . it must've been a substantial malfunction to cause your vehicle to do what it did - went into "limp mode." certainly, it was nothing you did so don't let this dealer blow smoke up your ***. i don't know how many miles is on your vehicle, but you may still be under factory chrysler warranty. if that is the case and the dealer you bought it from isn't a chrysler dealer, get it to chrysler asap or at least find out how you can get reimbursed from chrysler (if applicable) for any charges this other dealer may take out of your pocket. the only way they can try to make this look like it's your fault is to say you operated a impaired vehicle for an extended period of time. if they try to pull that, just stick to your guns and tell them you didn't - it's their word against yours unless there's hardcore physical mechanical evidence. beyond that, you'll have to wait and see. you don't qualify for lemon law. good luck

engine light on in limp mode means usually the EGR valve, or emissions systems, could be a clogged muffler, or catalytic converter,

I had an issue like this, only my problem was the transmission. I am also in a job the requires me to deal with contracts a lot. I am in Ks, but here is something to look into.... In Ks, you have 72 hrs to change your mind on a contract...for any reason. Even if you just decided you didn't like the car. there doesn't have to be anything wrong w/ it. Since you stated it was within 24 hrs that the car went back to the dealership, (depending on your state laws) you should be able to get your money back on the car, and if you and the dealership agree, they can fix the car and you can keep it.
