I live in the state of Ohio. I had a slip and fall incident in the laundry room of my apartment building back in May.I retained a lawyer, filled out an accident report for the insurance company, went through therapy, and was told to wait until I was contacted by my lawyer. He has never called me to see if the therapy I received was sufficient or if I was having other problems due to the accident. He called me last week to tell me that their was a settlement offer of 1200 dollars for pain and suffering and 5000 for medical bills. I also argued my case with my attorney which I really don't think I should be doing. Providing an argument for my own case? That is his job,to argue my case. I feel like he has dropped the ball and is not putting forth much effort in my case. I signed a client attorney agreement with him. Am I bound under this agreement or can I seek other council? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

You had a slip and a fall. The owner of the building is liable and has insurance. You required treatment for your injuries. You have a lawyer. Your lawyer believes that the treatment is over and you are cured, he is negotiating with the insurer. There is an offer of medical bills and pain and suffering (no lost wages?).
Your lawyer told you that he would call when you had finished your treatment and he did. You believe that you have "a case". It sounds as if you do not like the settlement offered but you are very unspecific about what displeases you.
So, what's the problem?

Good luck

This is my problem

I received 6 weeks of chiropractic therapy. I've called the lawyer's office on several occassions to ask if there was any other type of therapy I could receive. I have numbness in my hands and feet,I have a neck that should have a curve in it that is no longer there,my pelvic bones are out of line. The treatment onnly helped with the initial inflammation, but now I am having other problems. Unforseen issues with my neck and back.

You need additional therapy/treatment obviously. You should not settle with the insurance company until you are done with treatment. I think Ohio has a 2 year SOL on PI, and your attorney knows this. You were injured in May. You have plenty of time to obtain the therapy/treatment you need. If/when the SOL time comes near and if you are not ready to settle still, then your attorney will need to file suit to protect the SOL.

And yes, your contract is binding. If you want to obtain another attorney, you will be obligated to pay this counselor for his time/expenses.

Good luck.

Lawyers do not provide medical advice. You should be talking to your DOCTOR.

It is very unlikely that any injury you could have gotten from a fall would cause numbness in your hands AND feet. What other medical issues do you have?

It's also not a given that the building is liable here. If you try to take this to trial, you could lose.

I agree with ecmst12. You should be asking treatment options of your doctor. When an attorney guides treatment, I smell a BS suit.
