In 1969, I was 15 years and 11 months old. My boyfriend was 17 years and 3 months old. We came from NY to Florence, South Carolina and forged our birth certificates making ourselves older so that we could get married. We also forged permission slips from both of our parents saying that they gave us permission to marry. We parted after a year (1970). I have not heard from him and I do not know his whereabouts. I have tried to locate him but have not been successful. Being that the documents were forged to make us older, is this marriage legal?

My response:

As it stands today, under the law, you are married. Up to this point, the law does not know of your fraud. Until such time as you seek and obtain a divorce, or can provide proof that you were underage at the time so you can seek an annulment, you are married.

Do not even think of getting remarried until you take care of your past.

RE: Am I married

Thanks for the reply! I would never think of getting married without handling this first. However, I do not know where to begin. I have limited money and can not locate him anywhere. I have tried many different way's. Can someone tell me: If he got a divorce, would I have been notified? If he could not find me, would he have recieved a divorce anyway? and can I call the courts to ask if there is a divorce on record? Also, someone told me that if you go to the Domenican Republic, you can get a "quick divorce". If he already did that, how could I find out? I think he may have remarried, so I am assuming and hoping he did the right thing..... Any advice? Thanks
