is their a lemon law on used cars?

we purchased a used car with very low miles about a year ago, and we have had to put almost $6,000 into it. the trasmission will not shift half the time. even though they keep trying to fix the problem, it never seems to work. No one can figure out what is wrong with it. is their a lemon law for this?
