Is there a law that says after so many days unclaimed property is in your possession you can claim it for your own?

You'll need to look the law of "treasure trove" in your state if you found the property. There are probably requirements that you turn the property over to police.

If the property was abandoned by a tenant, look in the landlord tenant act for your state.
