case : Chris is a director of an advertising agency. On 1st May he met Amy, an owner of a small restaurant which needed to be advertised to improve its profile. After some inqueries made by her, Chris gave her a brochure that outlined his agency's services and gave a price breakdown for different services. Amy went back to her office & looked through, found agency seemed quite professional. She decided to hire their services. She called Chris, told him she wanted to appoint his agency. Chris told her that details had to be ironed out and asked her to go back to his office on 7th May. At the meeting on the 7th May, Chris & Amy discussed for about 2 hours and eventually Chris told Amy that he was in principle agreeable with the deal.
On 8th May, Chris sent a detailed letter of terms & conditions of his company's appointment as Amy's advertising agent. Amy received the letter on 9th May, & posted her reply the same day stating she agreed with the terms of the letter. Chris in the meantime realised that he might have over committed himself & decided to call off the deal. On 11th May, he had not received Amy's letter & he called her to tell ther that the deal is off.

Please advice Amy. Is there an offer / acceptance???

My response:

I'm sorry, but there is really no way for us the apply American law to those of Singapore. As you know, it's bad enough that laws in each American State may vary, somewhat, concerning your fact situation, ending in a different result; i.e., I wouldn't know which State law to apply, even for purposes of example.

It is highly likely that Singapore has differing laws altogether; so, therefore, you really need to consult with a local Singapore attorney.

Thanks for writing.
