What is the name of your state? IL
Not sure if we have issues here but I thought I would throw it out here. Wife volunteers for a charitable organization. She and another member did not like the way the org was going and they posed a list of questions about the charity that they wanted answered.
The Pres was incensed however said that the group would meet to discuss and answer questions. After the meeting they came back and asked for my wife and the other board member's resignation. And basically filled the email with allegations about the these two such as:
* They broke into the charity and stole one of the animals. Truth is, they received keys and were in contact with the manager of the office who knew this was going to happen. They took a cat that was gravely ill and nutured it and adopted it out as this charity does with animals.
* Also my wife and I were given two laptops from the charity to try and find some software so as to run the shelter correctly. I put my own copy of Windows 2000 and found some free, absolutely free software, demoed the software some time back. Well i had issue with the program and OS as it would not work. They demanded the laptops back, I returned them as I received them, cleaned with no operating system. I could not very well keep my copy of the operating system on the org's laptops.
We were accused of sabatouging the corporation with regards to the laptops and my wife and the other members were accused of stealing and trespassing on the shelter premises. Mind you this was nearly 3 weeks ago and was coordinated with the office manager at the time.
My question is: Should we seek any kind of libel/ or slander case against the shelter or actually the President who sent the email. They are threatening legal action on their end if several things were not returned, that being:
* The website (The design belongs to my wife. She put the old site back up. We never donated it to them or were paid for it.). We will give them the hosting company passwords as they paid for that. In regards to the domain, that belongs to a past member so we have no voice in that.
* The want a full out resignation of the two members promising never to be a part of this charity again.
If these are not met then the plan legal action.
Do we have any case in regards to accusations of stealing, trespassing and sabatoaging the laptops for the charity?
Thanks,
Bird
