What is the name of your state? co

Last Sunday, I tried to make a purchase at a local staples store with my gift cards. The manager refused to let me use my gift cards because he thought those gift cards were stolen.Obviously, he didn't have any evidence, but he told me in front of other customers. His reason is that I have many gift cards in my hand. He said he had to check the gifts cards, and then he copied all these gifts card information. Is this a slander?

hes a jerk and hes overcautious, thats the only thing wrong with him, if the store you tried to use gift cards in is part of a large franchise, such as walmart or another large store, you may try to contact a branch manager to place a complaint against him for not allowing you to use legitimate gift cards but legally speaking he hasnt done anything wrong, if the business is a sole proprietorship your out of luck, but if its a large company or corporation you could file a complaint against the man that refused your gift cards and see if they do anything about it

If the manager at Staples falsely accused you of being a thief in front of other people then, yes, it is slanderous. The problem is, not all defamatory comments are "actionable".

To be actionable slander (something you could take to court and win damages for), you must be able to demonstrate a reputational injury, greater than embarrassment or inconvenience. A reputational injury is one which causes you to be hated, ridiculed, held in contempt by others, causes a loss of esteem, causes humiliation (more than just average humiliation), and damages you in your "profession".

What the Staples manager did was stupid, if he did not have a reasonable belief that the cards were stolen and you were the culprit. If you had legitimate gift cards, I would definitely contact Staples and file a complaint about the manager. It may be good for a few additional gift cards. ;)
