My future mother in law took charges out on my fiance' and myself of abuse, she was granted a protective order for 2 yrs. we were arrested in June 2004, we have since been to court, the case was dismissed, but we found out that the protective order still stands. She is going into a nursing home following a stroke and will no longer be in the household. My fiance' is co-owner of the home with three other brothers, she has lifetime rights. We left that house with the clothes on our backs after being there for 4 yrs. Everything we own is still in the house. We have no money for a lawyer, this has cost us plenty already. Can we sue? We did nothing wrong and we have had to uproot to another location which costs us plenty of money and mental breakdown.

Time to stop living off of the old lady that was kind enough to let you live there huh? You have alot of nerve lady.

Call the police and see if you can get a escort to get your belongings and leave the poor lady alone.

I think you misunderstand my dear, we were not living off the "old" lady, we were there taking care of her, I worked and went to college part time so I didnt need to live off of noone, we spent four years taking care of her, with her having a severe mental illness and diabetes, it was not an easy task. Nobody in the family would help and we literally put her needs in front of our own. We are grown adults trying our best to keep her alive, we are gone 6 months and she has a massive stroke in the care of my fiance's brothers that took over. That alone tells me they didn't take care of her properly. We have a housefull of things that his brothers are enjoying to their benifit right now, and since she is no longer in the household, we would very much like to get our belongings and buy another home. The sad part is...we don't know if she is going to be alright or not. With this protective order (and i will remind you, the charges were dismissed in court) we cannot even find out how she is doing. Thank you!!
