What is the name of your state? New York

Just found out that my bank account(checking) was frozen. Good thing that there was very little money in it.
I was never served with any papers (summons)in any form: Mail, In person, etc.
I never received any phone calls, mail with any information. I have clue to who did this any why.

How do I find out who did this and was the way it was done legal? Will the bank be able/ be willing to give me proof that this was done thru the courts?

How long can it stay frozen? Will they/can they try anything else since the account is empty?

Thank you.

Presumably, your account was frozen/garnished as a result of an outstanding judgment against you.

It will stay frozen until the funds are forwarded to the court or the judgment creditor. And yes, they can, and probably will, take other actions against you to collect on the judgment.
