What is the name of your state? Washington
As a boardmember of a youth football program in Washington, I used our website to address certain rumors that were circulating. In my response I made reference to a former board member who was removed from our executive board for conduct found to be unbecoming of a board member according to our by laws. I made reference to the fact that he was removed and why. The post was on the website for no longer than 48 hours. He asked me to remove it and I did. He threatens to sue for libel and slander if I am not removed. Can he sue if the information is true and documented with meeting minutes? Nothing stated was untrue or even opinion. it was all fact. I look forward to your comments. Thank you.

Did you have permission of the entire board before making this statement? DId you provide information by which the facts could be verified? Sometimes facts and opinion are very subjective, if your facts were subjective rather than objective you could be in trouble. SOmetimes it is better to be less graphic and use terms such as you did here and let those with a real interest ask what was unbecomming, but even that can imply something worse. E.G, if he was removed for yelling at players that is unbecoming if he is supposed to be impartial, if he is caught in the locker room that could be unbecomming as well. Sometimes people just like others to actually believe that they are moving on in life or spending more time with their family.

Rather than to go into all kind of 'warm fuzzy's.... the ANSWER to your question is yes, he can sue you. After all, anyone can sue almost anyone else over almost anything.
However, if what you said was the truth, truth is NOT defamation.

Yes he can sue you (as in the owner of the site, youth football league) but he will lose if what you say is true and you have meeting minutes to back it up.

Thank you for your responses. I do have board meeting minutes to back up the information. I never said exactly what the dismisal was for just that it was "conduct deemed detrimental to the operation of our organization." There was no malicious intent on my part and judging by the counter on the page it was viewed by less than 100 people. I don't know if that matters or not. Again thanks. Any more comments would be appreciated.

Anyone can sue over anything but if what you said was an exact quote he has got absolutely nothing. Nothing at all.

aut disce aut discede-either learn or leave

Nice mtto. How about dura lex sed lex, or mendacem memorem esse oportet, or fortes fortuna iuvat. Say what you want about the first post, but the second one was in clear response to what he said. (not to mention based on my experience on here you have to say something to most people like 200 times till they understand it). But for you Jetx, I will try to cave quid dico, quando, et cui.
