What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA

I have always lived in PA & held only a PA license.
In Feb. 1985 (23 yrs ago) I was arrested in New Jersey for DWI. I was 20.

I plead guilty. My license was suspended in NJ for 6 months, plus some fine. I had to go to
some class for 1 or maybe 2 days. I remember something about ARD & that my record
would be expunged after 10 years. (From what I read here and elsewhere, I question that,
but that is how I remember understanding it at the time.)

My License was never suspended by PA, nor did PA ever contact me. Over the years I've
received some speeding tickets (not a lot). Some were dismissed by the Judge. Recently
I was pulled over by a Delaware State Police officer for approaching a toll booth too fast. He
gave me a minimal fine because "of my clean record".

I am interested in a state job in PA that requires a background & security check.
Is this going to show up? Will it be a problem after nearly 24 years? I have NO other
criminal record of ANY sort. I am a respected person in business & otherwise. This was a
STUPID thing I did when I was 20 years old. Will this haunt me forever?

Background check

23 years ago is a pretty long time. Like you, I'd want to be sure, as background checks are a largely unregulated industry that is booming. If I were you, I'd get my credit card out and run a background check on myself and see what shows up.

JustAverageJoe....

Hey, if what you say is true, you're fine. I have had a VERY extensive background check with over 7 employers and my current company does the same investigations as the government because we do work for NASA, US Army, Navy, etc. I wouldn't even sweat a thing about your situation. You're good man.

ok so ARD first is something only PA has... I believe other states like Kansas and SC have some type of version of it...

next 23 years ago...

I would not worry about it...

I was looking at a online application for Penn Dot just messing around on the internet it ask if you have been convited of anything in the past 10 years...

I have seen all types of job applications and it asks this sort of question and 10 years is the max I have ever seen anyone ask and usally that's a felony.

even to get a hazmat in PA they only look back 10 years for felony's

that's just My opinion.

I was kind of wondering what my employability would be with a misdemeanor conviction for a second DUI on my record. I'm expecting to lose my current job with a consulting company, even if I don't I'm looking for something else because the travel would be an issue. But I'm a software engineer with a graduate degree, wondering if I'm going to end up as a bouncer at the bar on the corner. Anyone with comments on how DUI has affected your career?

Start your own thread. Do not hijack another's post with your questions.

No that won't affect u now, after 23 years, its been a long time. But an important thing to remember is criminal background check is a must in most of the jobs, you can't get away with it. I am not saying u can't do a state job, u certainly can, but when it come to background investigations don't hide the facts & that will lend u a job. also because your record is clean thereafter.
Good Luck!
