I am in California and was wondering if what I did could be considered subletting. I asked a new roommate replacing my last roommate to give me a security deposit and told her she needed to give me 30 days notice before moving out, but also HAD PER PUT ON THE LEASE with the landlord. (do you guys do real estate law here?)

Sure sounds like it. Your tenant is paying you to live there and they're not provided on for on your original lease.
