What is the name of your state? Oregon

After working for 5 1/2 years with my company, I was released due to "Changes". Actually, I had taken a full two weeks vacation (1st real vacation since starting) and after numerous requests to cross-train someone in my department, they had to pull the person that had done my job previously from a different department within the company. She hadn't sat in my position for over 4 1/2 years. We had been implimenting serveral new contracts for the independent contractors and pay increases for the company drivers since March/April. And, I have copies of serveral requests sent to numerous departments of things that needed to be done within the programming of the computer system. Since this stuff wasn't automatic, I manually had to update/correct pay matrixs. My supervisor didn't know what or how I did things, so moreless, I feel I was a scapegoat, which is OKAY with me. They hired two people to replace me. My issues is that I am friends with a wife of an independent contractor that is still running for my previous employer. Last week she received a letter in the mail, which was sent out to all 150 owner/operators, stating that because I hadn't charged them for their physical damage insurance since February, they were going to be taking it out in so many equal installments. Now this letter has my full name stated in it and it states that the person that use to do the job, eons ago, had come across this "problem" and has fixed it. I was released at the end of July/beginning of August. The thing is this is not true and my friend has all of the documentation to prove that I had been taking out the insurance premiums like I was suppose to. My friend has also stated that my ex-supervisor has made derogatory comments about me and it is not called for. I feel that they could of wrote their letter a million different ways without actually stating my name after 2 1/2 months. I am also having some anxiety issues on using them as a reference. I did the best I could with what I had to work with. I feel that this is slander and I don't deserve it. Please let me know. Thank you.

It is quite costly to sue somebody, especially with a lawyer. My guess is that any damages awarded to you (if damages can even be assessed!!) probably wouldn't cover your court costs. Whether or not it is worth it is completely up to you. Look around for local attorneys to have consultations with and see what they think.
