What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MA

Dear Sir,

My H1B has been filed for Transfer(non-premium) under my new company. The start date is 5 Jan. Can I be on the payroll of my current company till 30 dec 2008. I have not yet started to work for them yet. Thanks
