What is the name of your state? NY

Me and my wife were legally married abroad in Jamaica WI. Recently my wife tried to change her name at the NYS DMV and they said that a Jamaican wedding is not recgonized my the State of New York and would not do the name changes. I can only find that the United States Dept of State website states that our marriage is legally binding in the US. what should we do in order to get this rectified with the DMV and NYS???

according to US DEPT of State I dont need to have the Embassy OK it. I am wondering why the DMV in NYS wont except it??? If it is legally binding by the Federal Govt. why wont a state DMV accept it???

The operative words are "In General" you didn't say whether or not you followed all there rules or had it validated by the embassy.
