This past Good Friday I was told by our Hr mgr. & GM that I would not have a job at the end of June 2001. I am a staff level manager at a major aerospace company in Georgia. Our GM has been at our company for only 6mos. I've had this position for the past 5.When I asked the HR mgr why he wouldn't give any specifics and told me to talk to the GM. When I did this the GM told me to talk to HR. Both told me that if I mention to anyone about this situation that they would let me go now, rather than at the end of June when my 401 & retirement would be vested. My wife is also in management at this company. The HR mgr went to her offict and told her of the cosiquences if she were to say anything. Mean while I'm going to work everyday knowing all this. Makeing plans for next FY for my departments which happen to start July 1, and carring out an extensive third party certification process for the company which ended sucessfuly last week.
The middle of the next week th GM call me in and told me rather than getting rid of me he would have me head up a differant "non" staff position which would be reporting to one of my current peers. I figure this is better than not having a job. I find out this past Friday this job is 2 pay grades lower and is not going to be at a supervisiory level as previously stated. The worst part is that if I want a job I have to bid on it like everyone else, although our HR mgr said the posting would be rigged for me. The GM & HR wants it to look like this was my choice for this demotion to the rest of the employees by me bidding on the job. What I suspect is happening is that he is making room on the staff for a former employee of his that starts at the end of the month. I figure I'm being targeted because I have not completed my degree yet (still going to school).
I have nothing in writing telling me why any of this is happening. All of my performance reviews have been excellant all goals meet or exceeded. My wife are very well like & respected at our division & corporate. I belive the GM & HR feer me telling the truth about the situation would cause bigg problems for the employees he is trying to winn over. The problem is that this job posting goes up tomorrow. I have a very hard time convincing myself to willing bid on this job and playing into their plan. However I do need a job. Please someone give me some advise quickly.
Sorr this was so legnthly
