Situation in Virginia:
My fiancee bought my engagement ring from a highly reputable jeweler & the setting is crappy - it's got pits in the gold & very shoddy work. We're talking about an $7500 ring. I returned the ring to have the setting fixed and now I'm getting the runaround on getting the ring back. They keep saying it will be done tomorrow, but when I call, it's still not ready. The problem seems to be that they're having some big retirement sale for the owner (his brother is taking over - the business is not going under) and that's all they care about. Us current customers are SOL.

How can I get my ring back? I've already made the drive up to the store (45 min one-way) 3 times with no success. Should I picket the store (which sounds like fun to me)? Should we call the CC company & put some kind of hold on the charges until we get the ring? Help!

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Picket? Are you watching too much TV?

Basically, no charges should be assessed because the ring was "crappy" in the first place. I.e. you did not get what you bargained for. If they attempt to charge you, you counter by saying all charges shall be null and void seeing as how they have chosen to "house" your ring and refuse to do reasonable and timely work on it.

Report them to the Better Business Bureau and see what the Bureau's take on it is. They may say you should take it somewhere else to be fixed at the store's cost.

Hope this helps.
