What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oh
jkejakesmom, I see your thread has been closed. I just wanted to add a little bit of non-legal info.
If you have not already inquired as to waiting lists for any resources for your child, please do so. My cognitively disabled stepson has been on a waiting list for a particular school for nearly three years now. He also at one time was on a 11 month waiting list for in-home services.
I know it can be hard to find the best available resources for a special needs child and it can sometimes take a lot of digging and a lot of brick walls. Having a proactive county MRDD service facilitator is extremely helpful as well. Your county's board of MRDD may also have a Behavioral Intervention Specialist of which you may have access to. An educational advocate is also key. You may also want to check if your state's board of education offers an Autism Scholarship program and if they have an IEP Facilitation Program. I am not familiar with resources in Wisconsin or Texas. All I can say is with a lot of hard work and never giving up, we found more appropriate resources for my stepson. Along with being fortunate enough to have a superb county mrdd service facilitator. Just like anything else---some people are better than others and you always have the right to ask for a different service facilitator.
I wish your son all of the best in whichever path is in his best interest. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
