What is the name of your state? vt Are there protections of your boss changing your job description? Lets say your hired as a truck driver driving full time days making deliveries to various drop offs of product. The boss then changes your job from full time days to part time nights, and no deliveries. He hires another driver for days because they are friends. Your pay was cut in half due to this change. You have been with the company 4 years as a truck driver. Your now expected to go pick up a company truck at a 3 hour away location and bring it back. And that is now all your job now entails. Never missed a day of work for the 4 years youve been there, and no write ups. Day driving was 10 hours a day with overtime when needed. Thanks

I agree unless there's a union involved. Many truck drivers belong to a union and they might be able to help him out. Is the company independently owned or under a union?

independently owned. The driver began confronting the boss about working over the 60 hours which is illegal. The boss wanted him to drive the routes he had in place which were impossible to do under the 60 hour driving time. So he said he would replace him to nights and hire someone during the day who would do as he wanted. Then two weeks later the boss fired him with no explanation.

Well if the owner is willing to allow for falsified driver logs, it's better the person IS outta there. Karma, baby, he WILL get caught eventually and the fine to owners who precipitate this type of behaviour is extremely higher than it is to a driver. So be glad he's outta there!!!!

I agree, but what I was wondering is this considered a retaliation under the whistle blower law?
Nothing that you have posted even indicates whistleblowing, let alone protection under the law.

In addition, a job description is not a legally protected document. The employer may make changes to it, including cutting a job from full time to part time, any time they choose unless there is a legally binding contract that says otherwise.

I understand the at will and so on. But what I don't understand is cutting and changing hours, then getting fired due to the driver complaining about the violations of driving over the legal limit. Seems to me the boss decided to cut his hours then fire him since the driver would not do as he said. I thought if in fact the employer put the employee in a position of breaking the law and the employee confronted them on the issue they could not retaliate.
