Does a criminal history bar anyone in NY from being a local judge? If so, would it matter if the person had YO status?

I am not really positive about it but I think if you have a severe criminal record like a felony or something then you cannt work in any kind of criminal field.....here in Tampa you cannot do anything in the field if you have any prior arrests or convictions....
