You think telling someone NOT to prepare for a meeting with a lawyer is sound advice?
You can reduce the costs involved in meeting with an attorney by preparing for the meeting much as you would prepare for a speech. You can even use index cards to outline your concerns and bullet-point the facts in advance of the meeting. If you stick to the bullet points, your time with the attorney will not only be more productive, you will not wind up paying the attorney for time engaged in irrelevant chatter.

You should have copies of the roommate agreement and your mortgage/related documents with you when you see the attorney. The attorney can tell you if the agreement is legally binding as written.
