**A: it is a scam if you do now owe the money. So tell us that you did not pay a creditor and there was court action. And what else did the court do?

help

I do have the debt but this seems really weird, I was never notified by the court about judgement. A lawyer sent me a notice stating there IS a judgement against me and he will be starting to Granish my wages once I send him my employer name and number ( Which I didnt , because it sounded odd) I do want to pay this but I do not want to get stuck in a scam. I always thought when you were sued that they were hand delivered to you. The court Never notified me, and I do not even know who to call in the court to validate this letter.

Just call the courthouse where you live and find out if there are any judgments filed against you. If there is more than one court in your area, you may have to call them all, but they will tell you if there are any judgments actually there.

If there IS one, you ask for a copy of the case file, that will give you the details of the lawsuit as well as give you the proof of service. The proof of service will tell you when, where, how, and to whom the summons was served. You MAY have grounds to challenge the judgment. Just demanding your employment info over the phone isn't the way they get a garnishment. They have to file a writ of garnishment at the court house, your employer is served with the papers, and you get copies. You would also have the right to appeal it.

The people at the courthouse(s) aren't going to bite you, so don't be afraid to ask the court clerk(s) what you want to know.
