What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Mississippi
My son was killed in June 2009 he had custody of his 2 sons at the time of his death I was given temporary custody while his ex went to rehab she got out in sept 2009 and in October 16,2009 was given the children, november 2009 she had a wreck under the influence and was locked up 6 months upon this she told dept of human services she did not want the children with me stating I was a drug addict and wanted friends of hers to have custody the friends both are convicted felons for drug charges I repeatedly called and filled out paperwork to get visitation with my grandsons nobody ever contacted me it was 16 months before I saw them...their own state law says children can not be placed in a home with a convicted felon these things happen often thru Dhs negligence I want to know how to handle getting the state to investigate things instead of taking people's word I know have full guardianship after them giving them back to her a 2 nd time and she was locked up again for drugs

If you want any chance at custody you are going to need a lawyer. This has nothing to do with defamation.

In custody cases it's common for parties to lie, and viciously. You have to get an attorney. What you need is beyond the scope of an internet forum. This is not something you can do on your own without a very strong grasp on the law, and if your'e asking the questions you are, then you don't have the knowledge. Please don't think I'm insulting you. Child custody law is very tricky, and what is at stake is far more precious than an old car or something. For the sake of your grandchildren, do not try to go this alone. Get an attorney ASAP. If you can't afford one, try to find one willing to do some pro bono hours, and if that doesn't work, get to your country's legal aid department and see about having a guardian ad litem appointed to the children.
