What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York City

In 2008 my mother signed over her house to my brother and I and we refianced. My brother and I were the only owners on the deed and on the mortgage note.

My mother was having financial problems and dealing with possible forclosure.
A year after the the refi and deed transfer my mother receives a lien/judgement on the property. My mother took out a business/corporation loan from hsbc which she was not able to pay for, the property was used as an asset at the time. This lien was ordered AFTER the first refi but we had our lawyer cut a deal with the collection agency that bought the loan from hsbc which we has not been paid for. We had structured a deal to pay the collection agency to take the lien off after we do a second refi which we recently closed on.

I found it interesting that the title search had no lien/judgement on the property. I told my bank that we were refing to pay off this lien/judgement. They search the title with a fine comb and couldn't find anything.

So my question is, am I liable for the lien/judgement on the property. If my mother decides not to pay will there be any repercussions?

Thank you in advance for your time.
