What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana
I received a letter from an attorney's office stating that I have to appear in court in March for an old credit card debt they're trying to collect on. I got this credit card when I was 18 years old, I am not 32 years old. I received a letter in the mail back in 2008 for payment plans from an attorney's office in which I called and set up a payment plan with. Unfortunately, I was unable to continue payments due to my job decreasing my hours. The attorney's office told me that I could follow up with them whenever I am able to start making payments again. Well, since 2008, I had forgotten all about this and ended up moving back to Florida in 2013. Since 2008, I never received any phone-call or letter of any sort on this matter. Almost 10 years later I am being told I have a judgment on my credit, which this is the first time of me knowing this. I don't understand how there's a judgment on my credit when I never received any papers in the mail stating I have to appear in court. The debt is $1,000 on a credit card that only had a credit limit of $200... They're showing an old employer and bank that I used to have years ago, but no longer have currently. I am just wondering how I should proceed with this, being that the court papers came from the attorney's office and this is almost 10 years old.
