What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? New York
Law Firm won a judgment against me and has now frozen my checking account. Question is - is it true they are allowed to do that for double the amount?Next month I should be in position to pay it off, should I pay these creeps directly or go to court house? Was thinking of having lawyer write it all up. Thanks much for any help you have to offer.

"is it true they are allowed to do that for double the amount?"
*** To my knowledge no. I have never heard of a bank garnishment being done for more than the amount of the judgment or the available funds in the account). Who is telling you that they can?? What did they say when you asked them to show you the statute and/or bank rule saying that they can do that??

"Next month I should be in position to pay it off, should I pay these creeps directly or go to court house?"
*** Whichever you prefer..... but if you pay them directly, make sure that you get a receipt AND a signed 'Satisfaction of Judgment' from them upon payment.

"Was thinking of having lawyer write it all up."
*** No need. Assuming you are going to simply pay the judgment in full, this is a simple matter and not worth the expense of an attorney to simply get a 'paid in full' receipt and satisfaction.

Thank You

Thank you for that info. I believe I will go directly to court house though as I do not trust this law firm. And as to who told me that it was the law firm directly but I thought that was mis -information. Any way bank has my checking account as minus double amount.
