What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

I was recently mailed a notification for Jury Duty to a courthouse farther than our local one, much much farther at that.

It's roughly 54.2 miles away upstate and I live just minutes from the city.

I sent the form back in with the required fill in the blanks.

Will they realize it is too far of a distance for me and send me to a closer location or do I have to notify them?

BTW, this is the second questionnaire I was sent and it gave me the date, time, and location for Jury Duty if that matters.

Thanks in advance. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

You have to ask for a transfer. They won't do it for you unless you ask

Is it too late to ask? Who do I call?

I have about 2 weeks left to date for Jury Duty in Long Island. I am located in Brooklyn.

Appreciate the help.

That's pretty odd. This wouldn't be for the federal courthouse in Islip, would it? (That one is in the same Federal district as Brooklyn). If so, you can try calling the clerk and asking to serve in the local courthouse, but they do not have to honor your request.

I am not in your state, but in my state they DELIBERATELY assign you to a courthouse somewhat of a distance from your home, because it makes it less likely that you will be familiar with any of the cases or know personally any of the participants.

Yes, I was assigned to Central Islip courthouse on 100 Federal Drive or something.

I expected to be assigned to the courthouse on Jay street in Brooklyn.

I'm gonna call and try to ask for a transfer.

Thanks all, greatly appreciated.

Well, the one on Jay St is the state Supreme Court. You'll want to ask for the one on Cadman Plaza East (down by the bridge). It's actually a pretty nice one to serve in - they just opened it a few months ago.

(800) 587-6775. Remember, you catch more flies with honey.

PS: If you do have to go to Islip, they pay for travel costs:
Paid at the rate of $40.00 each day that you report, plus mileage, parking and tolls. Juror attendance and mileage are computed automatically.
