Dear “Me”,
We have been working together in scouting for 8 years and still at
times you shock me with your insensitivity. I was able to let many
things go till your last request and that just was the last straw on
this camel's back. Needless to say I'm upset and shocked by your
recent request. So before I say anything about the $5 you say you are
taking out of my "Gas Payment" let me make sure I have everything
correct. I paid for “son” $364 to go to “camp”. This is the $465
minus a $50 gift from his den in cub scouts and $46 he had earned
from popcorn. As you made very clear this last Tuesday that I made a
miscalculation and I should have paid the Troop $369, not $364, and
therefore “son” still owes $5 on his trip.
Here's where I'm confused about the $5. The Troop gifted each scout
going to “camp” $100. This I had asked you to not give to “son”
but to give to “other scout”, because his family needed assistance. Then you
had told me that there were two free adult who could go to “camp”.
You told me that one of the free ones would be yours, because you
felt you were more deserving than “other adult” or me, and you said if you
did not get to go free that you would not go. Anyway, at that time
”another adult” was not going, so I accepted that you would go free, as you
have every time you have gone to “camp”, and “other adult” and I would
split the other. Then “another adult” came in and I figured we would pay 1/3
less on each of our adult total amount. Then as time got less than 1
week to leave I had not heard what our adjusted adult total we owed
the troop was, so I paid you in full, however I knew that the Troop
only had to pay for 2 of our 4 leaders going. Who else went free
”me”? Because I know I received no deduction from my trip. Was I
not as valuable as the rest? Who decided that I should get no
financial break for all my time and effort, and that I should pay for
it all? Did the committee decide this or you? Again I figured I would
let this pass because I had waited a long time to go and to be with
one of my sons at “camp”, and this year I was an Assistant
Scoutmaster and I was finally able to go and help, so I decided I
wouldn't fuss and I would pay the full adult amount. In any case and
in retrospect I personally felt the nice thing for you to do “me”
would have been for all adults to share and pay equally for the trip.
But I remember that for every year you have gone to “camp” that you
went free and that this was just the way you did it, it didn't matter
to you if it was fair, or that sharing the expense would be a nice
Christian thing to do. A matter of fact I remember a couple of years
ago “another adult 1” went to help you with a physically disabled scout, who
was not “another adult 1” own child, that you again took the free adult fare and
gave no discount to “another adult 1”, who I know was very financially in need at
the time. Why “me” do you see yourself as the only deserving person?
Finally, my husband and I offered to drive. We were not expecting
any compensation for driving or fuel; this was something we wanted to
do for the Troop. However you said the Troop was giving $20 to help
pay a small portion of the gas. Anyway, considering my husband had
been in his ATV accident and was in a lot of pain driving for four
hours each time to “camp” I thought the $20 would be a nice
gesture the troop could show to him. Then comes last Tuesday night
when you approached me “me” and asked me "Do you have a $5 bill". I
did not; I had only some loose change in my pocket. Then you proceed
to tell me that I shorted the Troop $5 and that you needed to take it
out of my gas money. You had the $20 to give me but refused to give
me any thing because I did not have a $5 bill and you decided that it
was now your responsibility to make sure I did not rip off the Troop
and you wanted to collect that amount right now. Since I did not
have the $5 you stuck the $20 bill back in your pocket and walked
off. I'm sorry “me” but how petty can you be. I even gave you a
new $70 wet suit for nothing, and this is how you choose to treat
me. What the heck is wrong with you “me”? You act so righteous,
but when it comes to money God goes out the window and you let the
green stuff guide you. It seems to me “me” that your heart and soul
stop at the dollar.
You know in the beginning my husband and I were not expecting any
money driving the scouts down to “camp”. Besides with a large
vehicle like ours the $20 didn't nearly cover the time and cost of
driving. So please “me” return the $20 to the Troop and tell them
Thank you but please keep there money I would hate for them or you
particularly, to feel that my family has not done their part or has
ripped off the troop. If the Troop still feels we owe $5 please have
our treasurer ask me for payment I will pay our remaining $5. My
husband and I have always been supporters in anyway possible,
financially or otherwise, of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for over
10 years. We do not like you waving a carrot in front of our face to
only turn around and rub our faces in a small miscalculation. Thanks
”me” for making my husband and I feel terrible. I hope the $5 was
worth it to you.
Sincerely,
”upset”
