Just expelled from medical school, need a good academic lawyer

What is the name of your state? NY
Hi,

I'm in the NYC-metro area and just got expelled from a local medical school as a 2nd year (I've gone through the 1st appeal process in front of the committee and 2nd appeal in front of Dean and my dismissal was upheld after both appeals).

Anyways, the exam that I failed that caused me to be put on dismissal status (by causing me to fail over the maximum allowed credits) was an essay exam. The school, however, won't let me see how my essay exam was graded. I thought I did much better on the essay exam than the score I actually obtained. Do I have any legal recourse?

I want the medical school to allow me to see the essay exam and to see how it was graded compared to the other students who took the exam (about other 30 students).

I need a good lawyer with expertise in this area (and one without really expensive upfront costs because I'm a student with very little money).

Q: Do I have any legal recourse?

A: Spend your time and money getting into another school.

While you are at it take an English Comp. class. If you are going to be graded on something you write you need to do a better job than you did here.

You haven't replied with how much further you've gotten dealing with the school, but as a former Academic Standards Committee member I can tell you that they will NEVER allow you to see how your essay was graded compared to the essays of other students. As to why your prof wouldn't want to show you what mistakes you made, all I can suggest is that you may have approached him/her too aggressively at the beginning. Some profs just don't have the time to explain the results of exams to students. Apparently you were in a marginal status if this essay made that much difference.
