What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? indiana

A friend of mine took his son to the police station to be questioned as the police requested. My friend wanted to be in the room while his 16-year old was interrogated. The police said he had no right to do so.
Were they telling him the truth?
THanks

There is no requirement that a parent or any other figure of authority over the child be present for questioning. However, the child did have the right to not speak until his attorney was present.
