My son,15 stupidly got involved in a theft at school involving calculators. He has been charged with Burgalry 3rd Degree. We are going to Family Court on 1/24/01,Do I need a Lawyer? He has never been in any trouble before and the Juvenile Detective said he would call probation to recommend community service as my son was very cooperative. Is this likely?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Your son might also be eligible for any available diversion programs in your state. see if there is anything like a deferred judgment, whereby if he is out of trouble for a designated time period, before he turns adult, the charges will be dismissed.

Hire a private attorney and don't do anything without consulting the attorney first.
