What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida

I'm now an adult, when I was a juvenile I was 'paper arrested' in Broward County for possession of cannabis (the event occurred on a school campus)

I was never physically arrested however, nor did I have to appear in court. I participated in a Diversion Program which the county offers for juveniles and that was my disposition -- that I successfully completed the Diversion Program.

I was always under the impression that I was charged with a misdemeanor, possession of cannabis under 20g, however, I've never been sure.

Now, I'm trying to join the US Navy. The folks at the processing station read the written reports and saw possession of cannabis + school ground = Felony under Florida law. (Or as I understand it, either the sale/transfer within 1,000 ft of school ground is a felony, and not just possession)

As a felony charge, at the moment, I can not enter the US Navy.
As a misdemeanor charge, I can.

So what I'm asking is how do I find out EXACTLY what I was charged with.
I live in Hollywood, FL. The charge occurred in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

I took one visit to the courthouse and all they gave me was a "disposition" which stated I successfully completed the diversion program, but not what I was charged with.

Any help appreciated.

honestly, you really should get a consult with an attorney. if it was a felony, it may not be able to be expunged.

however, if you completed the terms of the diversion program it can be dropped to a misdomeanor. but you would have to file a motion for that. it doesn't magically do it on it's own. just like your juvenile criminal record is not sealed the day you turn 18. not saying it to be smarty pants, but that is a really old BAD rumor that tends to get stuck.

then again, it depends on the sentencing.

youw ill need a copy of the entire file. not just the status report. which is what sounds like you were given.
