Is there any criminal or civil recourse for harassment/threats/abuse via internet?

Yes. The standard Criminal Statutes apply - and almost every state makes Harrassment and Aggravated Harrassment specific crimes.

Report it to the police. But finding those who made the threat does present a problem.
