What is the name of your state? Kentucky

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the law in Kentucky is about changing a minors name and notifying the father. I've read a couple different things and they are unclear. One said the fathers name being on the birth certificate isn't enough "proof" of paternity and the courts actually have to establish. The other said as long as the father signed an acknowledgment of paternity he had to be notified of the name change.

My neice is looking to change her daughters name. She was born in another state but has resided in KY for 3 years. The father has been out of the child's life for 9 years, no support or visitation. They weren't married. Does she have to notify him and is another states paternity acknowledgement that was signed at the hospital count as paternity being established?

That is a question better answered by a local attorney.

You're right and after speaking with 3 local attorney's nobody seems to have the same answer on what establishes paternity. I guess the main question is if baby was born in another state and that state considers paternity established can the new state deny it?

No...if paternity has been established in ANY state...all states have to honor that.
