I live in CA and have a friend in town who is having a problem and needs to know what sort of recourse or action he should take.

He moved into a house with a friend about 4 to 5 months ago. No lease agreement was signed, everything was verbal. He paid his rent in a timely manner. Recently the friend got very moody and decided he wanted my friend out. He gave him no notice, but said he wanted him to move. 2 weeks later the guy spoke with my friend and asked him to remove all his property and took his key.

If you could provide any recourse I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Your friend was still a tennant not the owner of the structures but his roomate could be considered his landlord in some states . So It could be considered illegal eviction . wether your friend wishes to make more of it legally or not is up to him but with out a written rental agreement between them it may be bit harder to prove the whole thing in court .
