I live in PA and sold a purebred kitten to a couple. The kitten ended up getting sick the day after it was sold. To make a long story short, the couple would not return the kitten or take a replacement. I ended up tearing up the check for the kitten and now they are saying they intend to sue Me for the vet bills. The kitten was put to sleep based on a sonogram before written results of the test were obtained.I felt so bad for the couple at the time this happened that I stupidly E-mailed them saying I would take care of the vet bills and now realize that I had done everything in my power to replace the kitten. Do I have any hope of winning this?

My response:

Not now, you don't. And, if this was a private sale, you didn't have any obligation before, either. But, now that you placed your offer in writing, they've "got you by the short hairs."
