We started having problems with our boat's engine about 18 months after buying it new. Problems were "fixed" as they occurred over a two year period, but as the CAUSE (design flaw) was not correctly diagnosed, those same problems recurred and more serious ones developed. Never has owner neglect or abuse of this boat been an issue (as the Marina Service Manager can attest). It was in the marina (certified manufacturer's repair center) for repairs for the third time last season (all stemming from the same problem) when the extended warranty expired.
Neither the engine manufacturer, nor the boat manufacturer, nor the extended warranty company (all owned by the same corporation, btw) will respond to our requests that they take responsibility for repairing this problem. We have made phone calls and written letters to the above parties over a period of nine months to no avail.
We have been advised by a local attorney (who indicated that we do, indeed, have a case) that his retainer is $3,000. That seems a bit steep, since all he suggested was that he could write a letter.
Please advise what our next effort should be toward getting this boat running again.
Thanks,
Roger
