Landlord bills tenant a plumbing bill....

Texas....We have had problems with plumbing and other water related problems in our apartment since we moved in. We have asked to get our toilet fixed because our toliet is clogged up and each time our landlord states to use a plunger......It didn't work. we have had drainage issues alot since we moved in. Finally, our landord sent over a plumber and had to remove the toliet. Plumber said there was alot of stuff in the toilet even an identification card of some unknown person, not just toliet paper. We received a bill from the landlord and we are told to pay the plummer. Do we have to pay this bill?

How long have you been living with a clogged commode? Logic suggests that it can't have been that long. Did you check the internet? There are many sites that offer tips for clearing commodes, garbage disposals, sinks, etc. Did you go to the local hardware store for suggestions?

What does your lease say about plumbing repairs?

If you haven't lived there very long (the ID card means this problem began prior to your tenancy) and your lease is absent any specifics on tenants paying for repairs, I'd say the plumbing bill belongs to your landlord. You tried his method (plunger); it didn't work. The landlord brought in the plumber.
