I live in Maine. My landlord broke into my 19 year old daughters bedroom while she was getting dressed and he was drunk. He and I had an arguement. His screaming and swearing. And my trying to explain that he was misinformed and then walking out because he was so beligerant. He would not allow me to go all the way up the stairs to my daughters room. He stood at the top pacing and was so intimidating and vulgar. I called the sherrifs dept and they said to file a protection order. I did. It was denied because he owns the property and does not live on it and has a legal right to come in anytime he wants even if he did break in. I can do something after he has done it 3 times! I have to wait 3 times???? What about my daughter being mortified at being exposed to him? What about the kids not feeling safe in thier own home? Please tell me there is still something I can do.

Not sure about the laws in Maine, but everywhere I've lived, the landlord has to give you 24 hours notice that he intends to enter your residence, so you can have a chance to plan for it...at the very least, he has to knock...my understanding(and I could be wrong, so check on this) is that once the landlord has leased the property to you, it is your home and you are provided the right to privacy...you really need to see a lawyer about this, cause that just doesn't sound right...
