My boyfriend and i put $650 dollars down on an apartment, the guy told us we could get it back if we didn't want the place after all. We found a better place and toldthis guy we wanted our money back, now he refuses to give it back. Are their any rules or laws regardin this?? We do have a receipt, but he claims it's worthless. (Since he supposedly turned another interested renter away, due to us.) HELP!!!

Well if the apartment is NOT rented, and the landlord LOST money on you...

Then he can keep the deposit.

If he rerented it and he lost no money on you, then you have to sue him in small claims court.
