Hello.
Recently our landlord evicted my fiance with 3 day's notice, and did not evict me. I told him that I could not afford to pay the rent on my own, and he gave me permission to move out on the lease. My fiance was evicted because we had a fight and the old lady downstairs called the police. Now the landlord is keeping the entire security deposit, and we spent an entire day cleaning every inch of the apt., and no damage had occured. Can he do this legally? If not, where can I get documentation of this to give him?
Thank you.
Kris

You didn't tell us where you are (see the RED text up there at the top of the screen??), so you will only get a 'generic' answer....

Generally, no the landlord cannot 'evict' anyone with only three days notice (they have to go to court, get a Writ, and the court gives several days for moveout... all in all, about 20 days goes by). Also, No a landlord cannot just decide to 'keep' a deposit... especially since they were the ones who forced the breach.

Contact your local Small Claims court.

Thanks for your advice.
We live in Wisconsin, and were wondering if there is a place on the internet where there would be a certain law or statute pertaining to this that we could print to show our ex-landlord, and give him a chance to return the money before bringing this matter to court.
Thanks,
Kris
