I signed a lease for an apt. in Los Angeles Ca and gave the landlord first and last. Five days before my move in date I was informed that the prior tenant had not moved out. I got a new move in date in writing - 4/1/01. the landlord told me the old tenants still haven't moved and he cant give me a definate new written move in date. What rights do I have?

I would contact the tenants who are there today, and tell them if they are not out by the 31st.. You will hire a lawyer First thing MONDAY morning, and sue them for ALL your expenses, you have a signed lease the landlord is trying but really the tenant is liable for your moving expenses, hotel room, storage fees, lost days from work EVERYTHING ... even your legal fees!

So put that in a letter and hand it to them today....i bet they will move fast!
