we are renting a single family home in GA. the landlord has not paid city taxes and the property is set for auction the first tuesday in june. we have received a reply to several phone messages left with the landlord. this is not unusual. they never return phone calls. if the landlord does not pay the taxes and the house is sold, will the new owners have to go through the standard eviction process or can they just put us out on the street? our present lease expired on april 01,2001, and there it does not state that it automatically renews. what should we do at this point?

Best bet is since you are on a month to month lease is to move by June 30th,

And of course notify your landlord that you do not intend top pay junes rent to the landlord, unless he proves that he has your secuirty in an interest bearing savings account, since you will never see your security, if you give him the rent money.

Unless you have some assurance in writing from the city that your security deposit gets transferred to the new owner with the tax sale.
