I wanted to find out some info on my rights as a tenant. I rent a home with one bathroom and the tiles in the shower have started to collapse. Upon investigating I noticed that the sheet rock under the tiles has rotted away causing the tiles to fall. It is disgusting and unsanitary. I have been calling and faxing the owners for 6 months and have been put off. Can I do anything to ENCOURAGE them to make the repairs? My lease ran out last year and they have neglected to send my a new one (I even informed them I needed a new lease). The property is owned by a company.

I live in Texas

Start packing and looking for a new place to live,

With no lease they can give you a 30 day notice to move anyway. So you might as well give your 30 day notice to move

Get some disposable cameras and take pictures and have extra copies made then have them time and date stamped.

Also gather all the faxes you have make sure you note the date.. and then send a certifed letter with pictures and copies of the faxes, and state that you will not be held liable for any damge caused by the tiles.

Then they will give you an eviction notice. And will try and stiff you for the security deposit, which means YOU will have to sue them in small claims court to get your money back.

Have fun.
