What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

Hi,

I am a landlord in NJ and my tenant refuses to pay rent. He comes up with many excuses and one new one is that he wants landlord registration certificate. I am already a registered landlord. I spoke to township and they said I do not require to provide it to him.

Can he hold my rent and refuse to pay the rent for this?

Evict your problem tenant.

ETA: Or, you could happily provide the information requested and THEN evict ;)

sure sounds like your tenant is looking for needle in a haystack to not pay, start the process to get the tenant out , what the tenant has asked you for is public information so if your rental unit is properly registered they can get it from city /county govt center ! ( if your city does not require a license card to be posted on the structure then there should be no problem )
