I live in Illinois. I responded to an ad offering rooms for rent, and I rented a room in a single-family residence. Thus, I am living in the same house as the landlord who is not related. Landlord is also renting to other people, and he also runs a temporary-hotel in this house, all in violation of zoning.

I have discovered that landlord is violating zoning regulations. I am concerned that I may be penalized or called to court if the authorities/police inspect the place. Can someone please advise me? If neighbors complain, will I be kicked out immediately? Can I demand for my rent back from this illegal landlord? Will the police book or give me a citation although I was cheated by the landlord?
